In order to detect and combat tenancy fraud, we nearly always have to rely on other organisations to provide us with information. Data protection and confidentiality can be a confusing area. However, the CIH have produced an incredibly helpful paper called ‘Tenancy Fraud and Data Sharing’ which will answer all your questions on what you can disclose and what others should provide to you.
Tackling Unlawful Subletting
The CIH have produced Tackling unlawful subletting and occupancy: Good practice guidance for social landlords, CLG in November 2009. In February 2010 CIH also published an addition of housing practice magazine on tackling unauthorised occupancy which can be read by CIH members with log-in details.
